Qualcomm has introduced the Snapdragon 4 Gen 2 (SM4450), a successor to the previous generation chip.
This new chip marks the first in the Snapdragon 4-series to support the advanced 3GPP Release 16 version of 5G, thanks to the Snapdragon X61 modem. Built on a 4nm process, the chip offers improved overall efficiency. It features two performance cores clocked at 2.2GHz and six efficiency cores at 2.0GHz, resulting in a 10% performance boost compared to its predecessor. The chip supports LPDDR5x RAM for faster memory and offers options for UFS 3.1 storage. Camera enhancements include a dual-ISP setup and Multi-Camera Temporal Filtering (MCTF) for better noise reduction in videos.
The Snapdragon 4 Gen 2 supports Quick Charge 4+ for rapid charging and USB 3.2 Gen 1 speeds. With 3GPP Release 16, it brings power-saving features and improved 5G coverage. The chip supports 4×4 MIMO with speeds up to 2.5Gbps down and 900Mbps up. However, local connectivity remains unchanged with Wi-Fi 5 (ac) and Bluetooth 5.1. The first smartphones featuring the Snapdragon 4 Gen 2 are expected to be released by Redmi and vivo in the second half of the year.

OnePlus is preparing for the launch of its foldable smartphone, the OnePlus V Fold, expected by the end of August. Sony has introduced its latest television series, the Bravia XR X90L, in India, catering to the high-end market segment. With prices starting at Rs. 1,39,990, this series succeeds the X90K range and features impressive full-array Triluminos quantum dot LED display panels. Available in sizes ranging from 55 inches to 75 inches, the Bravia XR X90L series offers Ultra-HD screens with support for high dynamic range content up to the Dolby Vision format.
The series comprises three variants, with the 55-inch XR-55X90L priced at Rs. 1,39,990 and the 65-inch XR-65X90L priced at Rs. 1,79,990. These models are currently available through Sony’s sales network in India, while the 75-inch XR-75X90L will be released at a later date.
The Sony Bravia XR X90L televisions boast impressive specifications, including full-array LED displays with Triluminos quantum-dot technology and Dolby Atmos audio support. They also feature image enhancement capabilities such as an IMAX Enhanced mode and Netflix Adaptive Calibrated Mode. The Cognitive Processor XR handles advanced image processing, while the acoustic multi-audio system provides immersive sound.
